Creating an Account
Why do I need to create an account?
Your child's privacy is extremely important to us, and in order to serve your family's needs best, we require an email address in order to play on Zoodles.
Why do you ask for my child's age?
We ask for your child's approximate age so we can fill their Playground with the most age-appropriate and relevant content for them. We take your child's privacy very seriously, and we do not use your child's age, nickname, or picture in any way other than to personalize their Playground.
How do I get to the Zoodles Parent Dashboard?
To get to the Zoodles Parent Dashboard, visit http://www.zoodles.com and click "Login" in the top right corner. After logging in, you will be taken to the Zoodles Parent Dashboard where you can customize and control all your child's activities.
Installing Zoodles Kid Mode®
What types of devices does Zoodles work on?
Zoodles works on a lot of devices, including Windows PCs (Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7), Macs, Android devices, iPhones, iPod Touches, and iPads. You can see the system requirements and features available for every device on Features page.
How do I install Zoodles Kid Mode®?
What mobile devices does Zoodles work on?
Zoodles works on all iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches running 3.0 or higher. It also works on Android devices running 1.6 or higher. Please note that if your device does not run Flash, Zoodles will not be able to display any games, and your child will only receive videos in their Playground.
How do I launch Zoodles for my child to play?
All you or your child needs to do is click on the blue Zoodles icon on your device and Zoodles will start playing.
How do I close Zoodles when my child is done playing?
Exiting Zoodles is different depending on which app you are using. To close the Zoodles Computer App, simply press the ESC key, or click the X icon in the top right corner of the window. You will then have to type "QUIT" to exit the app.
To exit the Zoodles Android App, you'll need to double tap the Back button on your phone and trace the "Z" on the screen.
To exit the Zoodles App for iPhone/iPod or iPad, you can simply tap the "Home" button on your device.
Connecting with Your Family
How do I invite my family to connect with my children on Zoodles?
Simple! All you need to do is visit www.zoodles.com/parent/family and click "Add a Person"!
How do relatives send storybooks and video mail?
As a relative, you first need to make sure that you have been approved by the child's parent before you can record or send any messages. Once you've been approved, you can visit Relative Dashboard to send storybook recordings and video messages.
As soon as your recording is complete, your book or video message will automatically be sent to the Zoodles playground where your child normally plays.
Child Safety Features
Is it safe for my child to use Zoodles?
Zoodles keeps your child safe by engaging them with fun and educational activities that have been played through in their entirety by our team of educational experts. Your child is blocked from visiting any other pages.
Who is allowed to 'connect' with my child on Zoodles?
With our Family Connect features, Zoodles allows you as as parent to invite close friends and family members into your child's Family. The people you invite will be able to read to your child, see and share their drawings, and send them video mail. You should only invite people that you trust into your child's Family.
How do I lock the Home button?
You have to enable Home Lock through our Settings menu. To do this, please complete the following steps:
- Launch the App and on the screen where your child taps their picture, tap the Menu button on your phone and draw a Z to enter Settings
- In the Settings menu, select the check box to lock the home button.
- Now you will be prompted by Android to allow Kid Mode® to take over your home button (when the app is running)... To do this, select "Use by default for this action" and then tap on "Kid Mode®"
How do I turn off the 'emergency exit' of Child Lock?
Fetch the device that you are currently attempting to use PIN lock on. Open up the Parent Dashboard on that device and visit the "Settings" section. There is a checkbox for "Emergency Exit" under your device settings. Please uncheck this checkbox.
How much does Zoodles cost?
We believe that every child deserves access to a safe, educational online experience. That's why we let kids play with all of our Zoodles apps for FREE.
Everyone who joins Zoodles will also be given a free 14 day trial of Premium Membership. Once the free trial expires, you will automatically be downgraded to a free Basic user, and your family can continue using the downloaded app for free.
Are the Zoodles Mobile Apps free?
Yes. Just like our Zoodles Computer App, kids can always download and play on our Mobile Apps for free. For parents who want added control and customization features, they can upgrade to a paid Premium Member. Learn more on our Pricing page
How does Premium Membership work?
For parents who want a more proactive role in their child's development, we offer an optional paid Premium Membership which lets parents block ads, promote subjects, set time limits, and much more.
Premium Membership costs $7.95/month, $39.95 for 6 months and $59.95 for the entire year.

Games and Videos
Where are the games?
There are certain devices that do not support Adobe Flash, and Flash is required for the games on Zoodles to run. Unfortunately, none of the iOS devices (e.g. iPhones, iPads, iPod Touches) run Flash, and there are also certain Android devices that do not run Flash. Here's a complete list of devices that are able to run flash: List of mobile devices supporting flash. If your phone is on this list, you should be able to go to the Android Market and search for "Adobe Flash" and install it from there.
There are certain phones that are unable to have Flash installed on them, and for those users, we wanted to give them the next best thing: an educational video experience.
Where does Zoodles get its educational content from?
The web has lots of great educational content for children, but it can be hard to find. Our educational experts scour sites big and small to find the best games for kids 8 and under. If you have any content suggestions, email our team at firstname.lastname@example.org.
How do you decide what content is shown to my child?
When you add a child to your account, you provide us with some basic information about your child's age and skill level. We use this information to personalize your child's Playground with the most relevant and age-appropriate content for them.
Can my child play Android games like "Angry Birds" inside Kid Mode®?
Yes, Kid Mode® lets you give your child permission to play Android apps and games from inside Kid Mode®. When you launch Kid Mode®, click the "Parent Dashboard" link at the bottom of the child selection screen. You can then use the "Apps" button on the Parent Dashboard to add native apps to your child's experience.
Please note, you will also need to enable Child Lock, which locks the Home Button while Kid Mode® is running. If Child Lock is not on, native apps will not be shown in the Games tab.
Can my child still play games if he/she can't use a mouse?
Absolutely! Parent Play-Along mode is our way of letting parents play side by side with children who can't use a mouse on their own. By explaining written instructions or clicking where your child points, you have the chance to truly guide your child's Zoodles experience.
What are Zoodles Storybooks?
We wanted to give family members a way to reconnect with their kids and instill in them a love of reading. With the Zoodles Storybooks feature, you can record yourself reading a classic story and your child will be able to watch the reading (over and over again) in their Playground. How do I unlock storybooks?
We give every family one FREE storybook that they can read and record for their child.
Families that would like more books can either buy them one at a time or upgrade to a Premium Member to gain access to all the books. Any recordings you make as a Premium Member are yours to keep. Learn more on our Pricing page
Why is my storybook or video mail stuck in processing?
Every storybook and video mail recording needs time to be processed before it can be uploaded and sent off. Overall, the process shouldn't take more than a few minutes, and refreshing the page after a few minutes should show that the recording has been sent. If your storybook or video message is listed as "Processing" for a longer period of time, please email us at email@example.com.
Can I do an audio-only recording of a storybook?
Absolutely! All you need to do is visit Books page and and click "Record a Reading." When you see the message, "Unable to detect a video camera," simply click the blue link that says, "I don't have one" to proceed with an audio-only recording.
What is Video Mail?
Video Mail lets distant family members stay in touch with the young ones in their lives. People who have been invited to connect with a child on Zoodles can send them short, personal video messages that the child will then see in their Zoodles Playground.
How do parents send storybooks and video mail?
As a parent, you can send storybook recordings and video messages by visiting the Parent Dashboard and clicking "Record a Reading" or "Send a Video Message!"
How do I set up my camera for Storybooks and Video Mail?
To set up your camera, you'll want to visit http://www.zoodles.com/camera and click "Edit Settings." Now, if you don't see yourself in the camera window, please click "No." You'll notice that the system will then cycle to the "next" available camera. Give it a moment and if you're still not seeing yourself, go ahead and press "No" again. You'll want to keep doing this until you've cycled through all your cameras. If you cycle through all of them and still can't get it to work, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
I'm having trouble with the "Allow camera use" step.
There are several things that could cause problems when you're trying to allow camera use. Below are a few common fixes:
- If your Adobe Flash Player Settings box does not match the one in the video, we first recommend that you try upgrading your version of Flash at http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
- If the boxes still don't match, or if you don't have a "Remember" option, we recommend that you visit Adobe's Settings Manager and delete the Flash cookie for www.zoodles.com.
- If the problem still persists, we recommend that you try the recording in a different browser (e.g. Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Chrome)
- Last but not least, please do not hesitate to email us at email@example.com if you continue to have problems after trying these fixes.
Why isn't my Mac's camera being detected?
Recent upgrades to Mac OS X 10.5.8 and 10.6.5 have caused many of our users problems with their iSight cameras (on any Flash site). Here are some common fixes:
- If you use Google Video Chat, uninstalling the Google chat plug-in is likely to fix this. To uninstall the plug-in, you'll need to find the GoogleVoiceAndVideoUninstaller.app, which should be in your hard drive's "Library/Application Support/Google/" folder (not your home folder library).
You can access this by launching your "Terminal" app and typing the following commands:
cd /Library/Application\ Support/Google
- Install the new Flash beta by clicking here.
- Uninstall Flash 10.2 using the Adobe Flash uninstaller, install a lower version of Flash (e.g. 9.0 for OS 10.1 10.3), uninstall Flash 9.0 with the Adobe uninstaller, then reinstall Flash 10.2).
- If you are using Safari as your browser, be sure to update to Safari 5.0.3 here.
How do I set up my microphone?
First, make sure that your microphone is plugged in and / or enabled. Once you're sure that a microphone is plugged in and enabled, what you'll want to do is visit http://www.zoodles.com/camera . When you reach the mic adjustment stage, move the slider (on the right) up to the top and talk loudly to see if it's detecting your voice. If you move the slider up and it's still not showing up as green when you talk, you'll want to click the "It's not working" button. At the bottom you should see that when you click "It's not working," the system is cycling through different microphones trying to find the one that works. If you cycle through all the microphones and still can't get it to detect your voice, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we would be happy to work further with you on this.
