@Jennine- agreed. People don't understand the "plight" of the gifted. Its especially sad how many gifted kids go unchallenged in school. So much focus is placed on the underperforming and the gifted kids usually just get a pat on the head. Its sad.

@ Megan-- Just remember, even if your child is gifted, we have to make sure we are teaching them how to control their tendencies. Gifted children are especially great at learning that if they perform an action and get a certain consequence, they can avoid the negative consequence by altering their actions.

Thanks for this post. My daughter has been driving me crazy with all six of these almost as long as she's been speaking (at six months old, she looked up at me with complete clarity in her eyes and said "Mama!") At four, she was already questioning her mortality. I don't think families with 'peacefully average' children fully understand the complexity of living with/raising a gifted child.... or two or three! Especially since, ironically, these kids want nothing more than NOT to be different.

#2 is so true but my daughter doesnt just love to argue she has to justify her actions like yesterday when she followed her father down the stairs in the morning knowing that she isnt allowed to go down the stairs her self. She was asked if she was supose to walk to down the steps by herself and she replyed "i didnt walk, i crawled" my 2 year old is really a 15 year old in disguise she's got a snotty comeback for everything.

I really enjoyed the funschool website, especially the games. It is a great way in teaching math to our kids. The animation was totally awesome, and we all know we need to use things like animation to make our kids learn. This way they find learning fun, and when our kids are having fun at something they will learn the easiest.

Those recalls are pretty scary to me; and I believe that many parents are overwhelmed by the variety that is out there. I did some research on baby-crib furniture and found help for parents shopping for baby furniture cribs. There are actual crib safety standards - if you verify that your new baby furniture crib adheres to these safety standards, you can be sure that there will be no harm caused by the crib - design itself. Mandatory industry safety standards as set by the Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC). In addition, there are voluntary standards set by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM). Furniture cribs that meet or exceed these safety standards are certified by the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association (JPMA). So watch for a JPMA certification if you purchase a new crib, to assure the maximum safety for your baby or toddler. Andrea from baby furniture cribs

I remember reading that book as a child! It's funny (sad-funny) about how we as adults can take for granted what can scare a child. We just watched UP together as a family yesterday, and when it was over, our kids said, "Mommy, please don't get that one again." There had been too many distressing parts (no guns, mind you, but barking dogs, thunderstorms, falling off cliffs, etc.) for them (ages 3 1/2 to 6 1/2). And we had just been trying to explain to my in-laws that no, they haven't seen several "kid" movies because we knew they would be too intense for our kids. They aren't "bad" per se, but just too intense for their particular sensitivities. If only I had watched UP first, maybe I would have known better than to let my kids watch it. I try to screen as much as I can beforehand, but time is limited, so it's nice to know you guys are screening things too! I can't wait to get my kids started with Zoodles!
